WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE PRIME MINISTER? WHERE IS THE PRIME MINISTER? WELL, THIS IS THE TIME FOR THE PRIME MINISTER TO SHOW WHAT HE CAN DO. WE BELIZEANS NEED YOU TO PROVE YOUR SELF, THIS IS THE TIME YOU SHOULD SHOW WHY THE PEOPLE ELECTED YOU TO SERVE THE COUNTRY. SHAME ON YOU TO LET THINGS GET WAY OUT OF HAND LIKE THIS, THIS SHOULD’NT HAVE HAPPEN. BELIZE IS THE BEST PLACE ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH , OR AT LEAST IT WAS. BELIZE GONE TO THE DOGS. THERE IS NO TOURIST ON EARTH THAT WANT TO COME TO THE CITY, NOT EVEN FROM ENGLAND. THE PLACE THEY WANT TO GO IS THE CAYES AND LEAVE, NOT TO BELIZE CITY………….WAKE UP MR. PRIME MINISTER AND DO YOUR JOB ITS ABOUT TIME.

  2. Angry Belizean says:

YES, YES and YES!!!! We need to bring back hanging in Belize! Belize has come to a point where advising, jailing and charging people for criminal offenses is just NOT ENOUGH!!!! you commit a crime, you pay the consequence. I respect the first comment made by mark, however we need to bear in mind that God’s due time of punishment is little to NO comfort to the grieving mothers. Justice needs to be made in this country, or else what will our future generation be left to live in??

  3. Charlotte Yearwood Martin says:

By bringing back Capital punishment to Belize we would join countries such as the People’s Republic of China, India, Indonesia and the USA. All these countries still have very high crime rates. This barbarism must not be allowed to continue in Belize. Violence breathes violence, it would only allow our society to tolerate greater level of violence.

Not to stray away from the topic but its related. I was traveling in Thailand last April (2009) and thought I should catch up with the news at home in Belize. I recall that there was a fatal traffic accident which showed decapitated bodies that left me pretty disturbed. I think it was particularly so because it was a woman being shown. …………………

One would imagine that the people calling for Capital punishment to be reinstated would also wish for it to be public so they can attend these ceremonies. We will bring down our crime rate by more police operations like the current one in place.

  4. Suga City Angel says:

Of course capital punishment should be implemented! Criminals found guilty of first degree murder are to be sentenced to death. There should be no appellation to a higher court.Tax payers’ money is only being wasted in fattening these criminals in prison. Our country’s constitution should not be challenged but should be honored especially on what it states pertaining to individuals losing certain rights and freedoms. An individual who is found guilty of having comitted a crimminal offense such as murder in the first degree does not have any right to life! Why should he be afraid of losing his life if he didnot value the life of the individual he killed. I dont believe in life imprisonment because these same individuals are released under parole. Overall I beieve that prisoners in general should not be treated nicely! Let them break some hard rocks under the hot sun, and see if after serving time they will want to go back!

I went to Belize City once. I was there for a month and decided to return back to the US sooner than I was scheduled for. The treatment I received by the locals was horrible. Yes I am Caucasian and I am also a very friendly person. I found the city dirty, I was robbed 4 times, I was astonished by the history of your country and saddened by the way it has deteriorated. I watched men hopping over the fence of the local jail. I stayed in 2 different rooms. The first was for 2 nights because it was just gross. Mold growing on the ceiling and fungus mushrooms on the walls. I found a cleaner hotel on Canal Street. The only thing was that the water was shut off at night and somehow it flooded the hotel the night before I left. I will give kudos to a small eating establishment that was on the corner of Bishop and West Street. What tourist wants to visit a city where they are treated poorly?

  6. cayo's anonymous says:

i think that they should hang at least 1 person so that the others can see what will happen to them if they do the same, and i see a lot of minors getting involved, when they are caught they should say their names too, because they will only keep doing it if their names are not mentioned, let them have some shame as well!

  7. crocusbeg says:

Guess what peeps, sometimes we criticize other countries and it would be nice for us to b in their shoes sometimes. For example, look at Cuba, in Cuba there are no thieves, rapists, druggies and the list goes on and on. U can walk all over Cuba 24/7 and no one dares to hurt anyone u kno why??? Fidel wa deal with them poom poom if dem slip up. In these times that we r living in Bze i wish that we had a Fidel Castro so that everyone would walk the chalk line. When i was a kid non of dis nonsense happened because anyone cud grab we and whip we u kino what if we mi d behave bad and my ma neva have nothing fi seh. She would a mi give me wa other dose on top a d neighbor one. Kids r 2 spoiled and parents have lost their arrogance in raising their children.

nobody wants to die, so if they know that if they kill they will die soon, they will not do it, so simple…

  9. Real belizean says:

I believe we need to make some example in order to create order. People are lead by fear, that is why they have rules. Unfortunately in Belize, people are not afraid of anything not even imprisonment. So yes, I think we need to instill that fear and make example out of some so we can restore order.

  10. Alfreda says:

I used to be against capital punishment because of mistakes made in UK with people later proved innocent being hanged. Now I think if there could be, say, a year between sentencing and execution there would be enough time to be absolutely sure of the guilt. If guilty in front of witnesses then I would be in favour of quick execution. Why should we pay to keep these murderers alive?

  11. rod says:

belizeans lets march on the capitol to bring back the hanging penalty this is only one step the other is anyone caught with an illigal hand gun will get 20yrs in jail and further more no more taking back gang members from the usa ask the pm why is he doing this just for a handful of coins from the us gov yes people your prime minister is getting paid for every gang member or criminal that have commited crimes in the us and then sent back to belize stop this do not tke any criminal element back from the us but your prime minister is getting paid by the us gov to take these criminals back .Not only should we start hanging murderers but make sure we have people selling panades and hops to watch when it happens dont forget meat pies hang them high at noon if not belize is lost for its only going to get worse this new strategy is a joke.

  12. lion bennett says:

i really think hanging should be brought back it will definately, reduced crime a whole lot. remmember in barbados or some one of the caribbean countries some years a back when they had hang 13 guys the same day.lessons were well thought and for years they were no more crime.i said hang them, and hang them up high so others can see and think twice before commiting a crime. lion bennett in L.A

  13. lion bennett says:

HANG THEM UP HIGH LIKE THE OLD WEST DAYS.

  14. lion bennett says:

LOOK AT JAMAICA THEY DO WHAT THEY SAY THERE GOING TO DO. STOP TALKING BELIZEANS AND STAND UP TO YOUR GOV. AND LET THEM KNOW YOU HAVE HAD ENOUGHT,MARCH TO BELMOPAN AND DEMAND HANGING BE BROUGHT BACK ,LET THE P.M KNOWS HE IS JUST TALKING AND NOT DOING BUT WHEN IT HITS HOME THEN THEY WILL REALIZE WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE.

  15. belizean says:

    Yes…Yes…Please…bring it back in a hurry……

  16. coboyz88 says:

capital punishment should be brought back, back in the day when it was in effect ther wasn’t all this killing. But the police depart let it get out of hand. The PM needs to get on the ball and bring it back and soon or else it will only get progressively worst than it is now.

  17. curious says:

all i will say is that no hanging should be brought back because if u hang those criminals they won’t feel th pain the victims feel so send them to life in prison let them suffer, leave it in the hands of Allah. surely he will let them accountable for all their sins in the ‘hereafter’ Allah knows best. so do u really think all those who commit crime will just die and rot in their graves? No Allah will let them feel wat PAIN actually is when they see hell fire. then they will say, ” og if only we should have believed!” but its too late. ALLAH Hu AKBAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Kebya says:

If hanging is going to reduce the crime rate, then lets bring it back. Hang them like clothes pon line. Hang ’em High! Hang about twenty of them in one day and watch the crime rate come crashing down. These guys don’t fear going to jail for killing someone, but if they know that they will be hung in public for everyone to see, they might just think twice about taking the life of someone else.

  19. Concern Belizean says:

I would truly agree that indeed crime is out of hand. and measures need to be implemented but i object to capital punishment. I’m could understand the pain those grieving families are going through but we need to take on mind that only one is the one who has all the authority to give and take life. I personally believe in leaving all in Gods hand he will be the one who will make justice for us. I would just like to leave you with this question>>>>
    1. If my father killed your father, want will you want justice, revenge capital punishment for my father the worst punishment…. rite????? but what if
    2. Your father killed my one???? would you like your father to be hang?? would you like the worst punishment for your dad???/

Most of times we only think for us to remedy our pain but why don’t we put our self in other shoes??? we are nobody to judge other no matter if we are feeling the worst pain in the entire would we are just traveling on the road and we do not know when or where we will stop. so for the while we are traveling lets do good. and i would urge our Government to take actions in this crime situation.

  20. Billy Smith says:

I THINK HANGING AT HIGH NOON IS A GREAT IDEA. BUT MR P.M. YOU MUST DO YOUR JOB , GET THE POLICE OUT THERE ARESTING THE PEOPLE WHO DO THE CRIMES. AND LETS CLEAN UP THIS PLACE SO WE CAN WALK THE STREETS AGAIN AND BE SAFE IN OUR HOMES.
