Central American countries stand to benefit from new health initiative
Two of the world’s richest men are teaming up with the government of Spain in a one hundred and fifty million dollar health plan for Central America, including Belize and Mexico. It was announced by the wealthiest man in the world Carlos Slim, and Microsoft’s Bill Gates, Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon and Spain’s Princess Cristina.
Funds for the “2015 Meso-American Health Initiative” will be shared equally by the three contributors and will extend over the next five years to improve maternal health, nutrition, and vaccination, anti-dengue and anti-malaria campaigns in the region.

Gates said it was the first time his US-based Bill & Melinda Foundation has teamed up with Mexico’s Carlos Slim Health Institute, but probably not the last. Carlos Slim is estimated to be worth upwards of fifty three point five billion U.S. dollars; Bill Gates is the second richest man with a net worth of fifty three billion U.S. dollars.
While at the National Anthropology Museum in Mexico City for the launching, Mexico’s president said “Today, we have been brought together by solidarity, the will to cooperate, and a joint commitment to the inhabitants of Central America and the entire Mesoamerican region.” The health initiative will also be implemented in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Panama.
That is good news for Belize, hope the people can show some appreciation, it is a gift.

I MISSED A FLIGHT IN MEXICO CITY ON THE 6 OF MAY. NEXT I TRIED TO CALL CANADA FROM A PAY PHONE, WITH MY CREDIT CARD $5.00/MIN, COULD NOT GET THE PHONE TO WORK, AN OPERATOR CAME ON AND TOOK MY CC NUMBER AND HOOKED ME UP. NOT EVAN A DIAL TONE WAS ATTAINED, I WAS CONCERNED TO CONTACT MY FRIEND SO I TRIED MY CC AGAIN, THIS TIME LIKE MAGIC WORKED TONE AND ALL!! EXCEPT I GOT THE ANSWER MACHINE AND DISCONNECTED WITHIN 1 1/2 MIN, BUT I SENT MY MESSAGE.
TWO DAYS LATER I CHECKED MY CC CHARGES, MY JAW HIT THE KEYBOARD, $92 51 AND $92.64 TEMP. CHARGES PLUS 2 $0.95 CHARGES TO MAKE SURE THE CARD WAS IN GOOD STANDING!?!?!?!?! W T F???????????????????????? I CALLED THE CARD CO AND ASKED W T F?????????????? THEY SAID IT’S ONLY TEMP AND COULDN’T DO ANYTHING UNTIL THE ACTUAL CHARGES WERE MADE.
THE CHARGES ENDED UP BEING $46.48 & $46.61 + 2X $0.95!!! PRETTY GOOD PAY IF YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH IT, EVEN THE NUMBER FOR THEIR COMPANY LISTED ON MY STATEMENT IS NOT “N O T I N S E R V I C E” I ESTIMATE 2 MIN PHONE USE.
THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS IF YOU CAN’T USE CASH IN MEXICO YOU DON’T NEED IT OR NEED TO DO IT!!!

It is important to note that while belize is part of caricom it is also part of SICA ( system of central american integration). This is because of our geographic location and ethnicity of mestizos in the country that share a culture and language with the rest of central america. We should be proud to be integrated and be part of both regions and be able to benefit from both integrations because of our rich ethnicity. However, lets remember that our roads, ports, borders and diplomatic corps (embassies) are closer or more directly linked with central america. Any benefits to our country belize or Belice are welcome since its for all belizeans on a whole and likewise with the caricom nations..
