Prevention is best when it comes to dengue
In Tuesday night’s newscast, we told you how the Ministry of Health was preparing to deal with cases of dengue fever which surge during the rainy season. The Ministry of Health says that while it fears a possible outbreak, once preventive measures are in place, the situation can be controlled.
There is no outbreak and according to the Ministry’s figures, since January, there have been a total of twenty-eight confirmed cases and two hundred and forty suspected cases. Of these suspected cases sixty-percent correspond to the Belize District while Cayo accounts for twenty-five percent. In the other districts, the numbers are less. The signs and symptoms of classical dengue can easily be confused with other viral diseases and having suffered from dengue, a person can experience the fatal hemorrhagic fever. The public is requested to make every effort to reduce the breeding sites of mosquitoes—including flower pots, tires, cans and other containers that hold water. Persons with fever, headache and pain of the joints are advised to seek medical attention at their nearest health center.

See Belize can be FORWARD THINKING!!! Keep Hope alive.
why is it that Belize has so many mosquitos and flies? Your tourist dollars should be used for eradicating these pests!!!!! No reason why Belize has not been able to contain their fly and bug population…….Tourists are spending enormous amounts of money to visit, get busy with an eradiaction process. more people would visit. and while your doing so, address the roaches too.
The majority of Belizean have no civic pride, imagine! they through gargabe everywhere, anywhere, whenever they want, you imagine how they live home!!
These people need to be inform and educated in spanish and english, malaria dept should go into the schools from infant one to adults and give information about preventative measures.
The next issue is people having land and doing nothing with it,some lots are overgrown and always damp, or water settle and can’t drain anywhere, this is where mosquitoes breed.
