September, the month of our national celebrations, also has patriotic fervour among our northern and southern neighbours.  Central American countries, except for Panama, but including Mexico will be holding a joint celebration in the capital this weekend.  The event takes place at four p.m. at the Governor General’s Field in Belmopan on Sunday, September twelfth.  Mexico, celebrates El Grito on September sixteenth and according to the Embassy of Mexico’s Press officer, the event will include cultural presentations, dances and fireworks.

Marcelino Miranda, Press Officer, Embassy of Mexico

“A big cultural festival and concert and this is made by the embassies of Mexico and Central American Countries—that is: Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Everybody is joining together with Belize in celebrating the independence day of all these countries. That’s going to be this Sunday. The main objective is to come together and to share the culture, the dance, the music of all these countries with the Belizean public. This event is going to be free. It is going to be open to all the public from four p.m. and at nine p.m. we are going to have a fireworks display at the end of the event. And after the firework, we are going to have Supa G who is going to perform for the public. For this festival, we will have groups from many countries. Traditional dancing groups from Guatemala, from Mexico, from El Salvador and we are also going to have the national dance company from Belize and the Nu Generation dance group. Mexico is celebrating two hundred years of Independence and all these year in 2010, there has been cultural events from Mexico and also the fifteenth and sixteenth of September in Mexico there will be a big celebration and also there will be a big military parade commemorating the two hundredth anniversary of the independence of Mexico. For this event, there will be representatives from Belize.”
