Belize under 17 National Basketball Team doing great at COCABA
The recent performance of Belize’s Under Seventeen National Basketball Team can only be described as impressive. During its first two games in the COCABA Championship tournament that’s underway in Costa Rica, the Belize team took down Nicaragua with a score of eighty-eight to fifty-seven. The local boys went on to play El Salvador on Wednesday and claimed another victory with a score of seventy-seven to sixty-six. According to the F.F.B. report, the boys started out rusty in the first half, but brought they took control of the game in the second half. Players, Brian White and Devin Daly were hot on the offense while Alejandro Baptist was the star of the night on the defense. Belize is currently leading Group B and to move on to the Centro Basket Championships in Puerto Rico later this year, the team will have to secure a spot in the top two. Of the seven participating countries, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama make up Group A while Belize, El Salvador, Mexico and Nicaragua are in Group B. the team is under the leadership of Coach Fred Garcia. The bad news is that Belize played Mexico today and lost by two points in a game that went fifty-seven for our boys and fifty-nine for Mexico. A close call but the team is not out of the competition.
Good to hear that our boys are doing so well. Especially since the beautiful game of football is currently marred by scandal of corruption and bribery. Finally I hope FIFA will be cleaned up, it is alleged that several caribbean FIFA reps were bribe for their votes I wonder if Belize was one of those country. Lets keep our sports clean so we can celebrate successes like this. Well done and keep up the hard work.
Congratulations to the Belize underseventeen basketball team; when the finish is so closed as the one game had with Mexico, the two competitors deserve the highest honors; the results seem to be more accidental than ever. Have a nice tournament.
