Father alleges negligence in death of newborn
Tragedy has struck a young couple. Twenty one year old Marty Tzib, a resident of Cayo came our studios today with a heartbreaking story. Tzib says that his pregnant wife experienced terrible pains early Monday morning and he took her to the local hospital. But before hours after the baby’s birth, the child was dead. With the post mortem examination result in his hand, Tzib alleged that negligence caused the death of their first child.

“The nurses were sleeping. I told them to attend my wife but after that they told us that they were gonna check her at six o’clock to see what’s going on. When we gone six o’clock inside again, my wife was in more pain. And they don’t want us to go inside and she’s my wife. When I gone at ten o’clock, the baby born already. The doctor came and told us that the baby’s ok; that everything was normal and everything, but they told us that the baby got some stool inside her.”

“When you say stool inside her, what do you mean exactly?”

“Well the water from the stool got inside in the pulmonary right. That is what the doctor told us and that they were going to transport the baby to Belize immediately. We were waiting, waiting outside and I came inside and I was telling the nurse; what’s going on if my baby’s ok. She tell me that there is no ambulance. I don’t know why they don’t have two ambulances there. I was pressuring them. And when I gone inside again, they told me that there was no driver. I asked about my baby and she tell me that the baby’s ok. The baby’s born at nine o’clock and when the driver of the ambulance came at two o’clock, my baby was dying. And then when they called me, my baby was already dead.”

“Condolences, but what are you hoping to accomplish. Do you intend to press charges against the hospital?”

“Well, I feel it a lot because it’s my first baby and I wanna see what I am going to do. I don’t know yet.”

“What did the post mortem results actually say?”
Marty Kevin Tzib
“Well I have the results here and it says pulmonary oedema congestion and asphyxia and aspiration syndrome.”

“Were these things that could have been avoided?”

“Yeah the doctor told us that it could be avoided. It was negligence, just negligence. I don’t know why they don’t find an ambulance and send my baby as of nine o’clock. It’s negligence, negligence.”
Tzib has not yet decided if he will be taking legal action against the hospital.

People dont go to that hospital. you go with a flue and come out in a box. many people have died there and ministry doesnt do nothing. they have the worst nurses there. lazy people winning money. fire them and get people that want to work. i surprise dr paiz is there after he had a record of so many people that got wrong prescription.

hurts my heart to see another newborn baby die, the death certficate has as cause of death asphyxia which means that this baby and the mother were on their own, no mother with proper monitoring should have a newborn die of asphyxia., good case for a lawyer!!
These people need to be sued.It’s such a shame.Our Belizean people are faced with all type of injustice on a daily basis.Criminals taking people’s life.Nurses doing malpractice what’s next ?
a newborn babies dies because of absolutely no attention in the hospital, while a Minister of government boasts of national TV that non other than the Director of Health Services accompanied him to Detroit USA to receive robotic surgery. oh my , oh my.talk about equity in accessibilty to health care!!!!
What galls me is that we still don’t have proper health care right in our District Hospitals? Why do we need to travel 50 miles or more to for something as old as ‘stool in the lungs’? Have we forgotten the danger of transporting patients all hours of the day? Have we forgotten Nurse Madonna and the ambulance driver from PG, who drowned trying to transport a pregnant mother? Their lives went in vane as nothing’s changed.
Its now 11 years after the WHO’s goal for “equal health for all by Y2K”. By now we should have atleast had trained personnel and equipped District Hospitals to take care of these common and simple complications. WHY MOH? WHY DHS? WHEN? After all those cry about the Zenaida’s baby in PG, and the pregnant mother who gave birth to a stillborn because she couldn’t get a flight out of the so called “well off” Island of San Pedro? Why not FIX the damn District hospital so that our people dont have to journey needlessly, for everything other than a common cold! WHY? WHY? WHY?
my condolensces mr. tzib! i feel your pain but as a parent of 8 lovely kids …… i sure would not have waited around for any ambulance or driver ……… i would have taken my wife & child myself to belize city! now a days u just can’t sleep with other people eyes!
This will continue to happen if Gov’t does not get on their feet. They say that everything is “OK” maybe for them but not for the rest of the belizean people. This also hasm happen at the Northern Regional Hospital and I know how it feels becausse it happen to my sister. The nurses there just laughed at you when you are in pain. But to me Gov’t is more focused on their election which is coming in two years. People need to sue the nurses and doctors who are not doing their jobs. My Condolences to the mother of father.
@ proud belizean, that is why we pay so much taxes in this country, basic healthcare should be available to everyone. 50 million dollars of our taxpayers monies from SSB is being squandered into a white elephant called BTL. that 50 million would do better providing upgrades to district hospitals.
No words can console this situation. Take this to court. Someone must pay for this brutal mistake.
Not only sue the hospital, all those on duty who obviously werent doing their duties should be fired. They want the pay but dont want to do the job.

These thing need to be reported to the gov. Goverment hires these people maybe the goverment is not taking their time go over their applecation. I would think if you want to be a nurse you need to have quilification or be certified. From what we know that the doctor has some kind training. He should at lease threated the baby while the get a driver.

Has anyone thought of their comments before placing them? Where do you find a hospital with untrained personnel? Which one of you who made comments is a doctor-and who can interpret exactly what is said on that death certificate? I advise you all to get your facts together
