Mexico’s ADO buses in Belize
It’s now official, after successful trial runs the Mexican bus company, ADO, has launched its services from Belize City to Cancun and Merida. ADO promises comfortable travel at affordable prices. Busses are scheduled to leave Belize City nightly after the last run by Belizean operators to avoid conflict with local stakeholders. The Mexican bus company says they chose the runs to make it convenient for Belizeans to travel through the night and arrive in Cancun or Merida in the morning, eliminating the need to spend extra on overnight hotels. According to the Public Relations Officer, the new bus services are expected to boost tourism for both countries.
Gabriela Osuna, Public Relations Officer, ADO
“Right now we’re entering the transportation services from Mexico to Belize and Belize to Mexico. The first route we have is the hospital route which will move from Belize, passing through Orange Walk and Corozal and last destination will be Merida. The other route we have is from Belize, Orange Walk, Corozal and finally the Riviera Maya, which will be Tulum, Playa Del Carmen, Cancun Airport and finally the Cancun bus terminal.”

“When do the runs officially start?”
Gabriela Osuna
“The runs started on Friday, we already have the permits and everything. It will be everyday from Monday to Sunday and right now the schedules we have is from eight p.m. and eight-fifteen. Eight p.m. from Belize to Cancun and eight fifteen from Belize to Merida. The first bus that came in from Cancun to Belize came with eight or nine people. The second one which was on Saturday and Sunday had like fourteen to fifteen people and we are this week increasing the passengers. So we believe it will be normally at least twenty-two or twenty-three people from Cancun to Belize and the other way around; from Belize to Mexico.”
Delahnie Bain
“I know that the media stations here will publicize the runs from Belize to Mexico, is there anything happening on your side of the border to…”
Gabriela Osuna
“Of course; we are already making statements on the television and radio and everything. We are promoting the Cancun/Belize and the Merida/Belize. They are promoting tourism principally and yes, we are making our best effort to bring more tourism here to Belize so it will be a win-win situation.”
Osuna emphasized that the stops in Orange Walk and Corozal will be only to pick up passengers at the terminals; not to drop off. Tickets are being sold by ADO representatives at the bus terminals in Belize City, Orange Walk and Corozal.
This is ,,,,,,hopefully a great start to something that could benefit Belize. Message to Dean Barrow….. please wake up and step up to the plate. Take care of the crime situation in Belize.Rid the country of the animals that are roaming the streets of a city that is already i dire need of a face lift. Please send people out to kill them. Rehab will never work.if you cannot do the job give it to me.Belize needs to move forward.
Very nice to hear this. Shows Mexico’s interest to work with Belize. Proud of this.
reel competition now, Belizeans better get their act together because the Guatemalans and the Mexicans are coming, who owns most butane gas, who owns Courts and Tropigas. Lets us stop killing each other and quarelling and lets us learn spanish and work hard to compete in this regional economy. let us start with lower internet rates and higher speed.
Soon or later you will get into a trap of hurting the belizeans and the Belize people will have to fight back: like against Mexico ADO… This will be good maybe for a-while, but in time someone else will have to come in and rescue Belize Transportation… Unless the government plans collect by or with the ELECTRICity bills to people who will never need to use the ADO buses, yet still will be supporting a factual bill to MEXICO by the Belizeans… now for who is this is smart?
I think that is a good move by the G.O.B. and the mexican’s to let the ADO make run’s from Belize.
BEWARE!!!! MEXICANS ARE CONNING OTHER CITIZENS CROSSING THE BOARDER TO BELIZE
My family is from Belize; I have a US & Belize passport! I traveled on ADO in December 2011 to Belize. At the Mexican border into Belize, the little man in the window attempted to charge me money to cross the border (approximately $10 USD). I refused to pay and was allowed into Belize. I recently came back to Belize through Mexico (June 12, 2012) and the little man in the window at the Mexican border charged the entire bus $26.00 USD each. No matter what I said, they still took our money. THIS IS A CON!!!!!! But, at the early hour of the morning, what can you do! WHAT WE CAN DO is begin blogging, twittering, face-booking and telling news stations that this CON is occurring and effecting not only US citizens but ALL those traveling into Belize via Mexico! I am in the process of contacting DATELINE investigative reporting. There is nothing that can be done locally, we need to SPREAD the WORD!!!!! Please pass this message on so we can stop this harassment by the Mexicans!!! It is NOT legal. If anything, request a receipt!
