The change will not allow homosexuals to marry. It will simply allow them to have sexual relations without fear of criminal prosecution. It does NOT give them power to abuse children. We already have very strict laws against that. What consenting adults do in the privacy of their bedroom is their business. It makes me weep to see the religious card of ‘sin’ being played here. Amazing that in this day and age people still believe in fairytales written in the bible by desert goat hereders thousands of years ago.

I am baffled by the church’s take on this issue. If we really analyze the background of the men who are molesting or raping our young boys, we would realize that the Catholic priests are the culprit. Does anyone ever notice or heard of what happens at an all male highschool, and the priests who live on campus? I strongly believe that those who interpret the bible strictly word for word, miss the truth by a longshot. No one can be made gay, so if someone said they are influenced, they had that incling in them from time, but has never acted upon it. Homosexuals have lived in Belize for many years, but they are married and do their deed on the side. Wouldn’t more harm be done if a man who knows he’s gay lives with a woman and have children, but behind his wife’s back has a relationship with another man. Would we want that to happen to one of our daughters? Bottom line is that people in Belize have gotten narrow minded, the bible was written in times when people were no knowledgeable. Yes it is inspired by God, but man’s biases were present in the bible.

So then, what will the church say about this part of the bible? A lot of people would be stoned to death annually for this crime. This just proves to show, that the church and the laws of a country should not mix. First of all the before the church points fingers or stand up against this case, they need to clean out their skeleltons in their closet. Both the Anglican and Catholic Church have gay priests who have slept with a number of young men in society.
Times have changed, we are not living in the days of the Bible, we can use it as a guidance, but we cannot take everything word for word. If we keep that mentality about homosexuals, then a lot fo skilled people who are very productive will leave the country, and we will remain a third world country. Do we even realize that some of the high fashion clothing we wear were designed by gays – Victoria Secret, for example. Though we dont know it, a lot of gay men are in high places in society, because they value their education and strive to get to the top. I dont see any of them molesting young childrean or preying on young boys. That happens in the heterosexual community and in the church for a fact.

The issue currently being proposed in court today is not about same sex marriage, but rather seeks public equality for a disenfranchised minority who, through no fault of their own, are attracted to the same sex. This issue is an issue that focuses on the individual’s right to property – one’s body is one’s property, the right to privacy, and the freedom of expression. All considered to be fundamental rights of a free and just society.

Absolutely not. I do not support same sex marriage. This contravenes our moral principles and the values we stand for. Same sex marriage is a curse from the pit of hell. Let it go back where it came from. Beside contravening our moral values it is against God’s law and the laws of our Jewel. I read each and everyone of ya’ll comments on this topic and I know that each person has it own view and opinions on things, I would have to disagree with those who said “NO”. Who are we to judge others? Just “LET THEM BE” for pete’s sakes. In the U.S., more than six states have legalized gay marriage and this will continue growing; it will be a worldwide legalisation soon. I am not against this topic but I believe that those who are, are the so called “CONSERVATIVES”. I strongly think that any person who wants to committ to a life partner should be treated the same way as if it was a ‘normal’ person. People for once, let us not be blinded by the things that are happenning in our surroundings. Remove the blindfolds once for all and accept that as humans, we are different!!
I do not pretend to step in anyone’s toes, but it is the mere truth. If it is not you, why would you care if same sex marriage was legalized. I do agree; however, that some religions view homosexuality as a sin but aren’t we all sinners. If you truly love someone, either of the same sex or different, you would be with him or her regardless and God will forgive. The legalisation does not hurt anyone or the society.
On a final note, I think this argument is about being OPEN! Something many of us don’t do. Same sex relationships have been occurring …whew… for a long time now.

THE FACT THAT SOMEONE IS GAY DOES NOT MAKE HIM OR HER NON CHRISTIAN. I went to a christian boarding school at the age of 16 going on to 17 i was sexually harased by a boy over 21 yrs at that school. But since they are so God Fearing they only suspended the “MAN” might i say since he was already an adult. Not only is this a crime that they covered up by not reporting it to the proper autority. but also held a meeting with my parents telling them i concented to it and looked for it. total hipocracy might i add since in their rule book rule # 10 says and i quote “homosexual behaviour will NOT be tolerated.. “WHY DONT YOU COMMENT ON THAT!!!!

Reading through all these comments made me understand how blind and lost so many people are to truth. Indeed the role of the Church is an enormous task and it seems that over the years the progress has been minimal. But the truth is that the true Church of Jesus Christ (those who have repented of their sins and are depending daily on the Holy Spirit to live as God requires) will always be victorious over whatever issue the Bible teaches as wrong or right. God will have the last say and has already had His say.
It is such a pity that so many of my Belizeans [and others around the world] feel that they just evolved and that there is no intelligent Creator so they can “choose” to live how they want. For those who believe in an intelligent and supreme Creator and do not believe or obey what He has inspired men to write on how we should live …you are to be pitied even more. Sodomy leads to a sore exit with bleeding,polyps, tumors and even cancer. Stay on the straight side Belize. The nation doesn’t need anymore “Problems.” I don;t care what anyone says, it is a form of perversion and while they are not asking for marriage that is where it is headed. Look at other countries. Decriminalizing the act was the first step. Next, it will be marriage then they will fight for rights to adopt children from Wi Children’s Home.
