Lead UNIBAM male attacked

Caleb Orosco

There’s a developing story tonight, concerning Caleb Orosco, the president of UNIBAM, who is seeking to have section fifty-three of the criminal code declared unconstitutional. Orosco was assaulted this afternoon at the corner of Dean and West Streets in Belize City. Someone hurled a bottle at Orosco, breaking two of his teeth. Orosco has made a formal report to the police, even though he thinks that the incident won’t go anywhere. He is the poster boy for the campaign to decriminalize homosexuality, an issue that is stirring up emotions among those who support it and those who totally reject a change in the criminal code.

This is absolutely disgusting. How can you people commenting on this with your anti-homosexuality comments live with yourselves?
In regards to your “sexual orientation is a choice” argument, I ask you when you chose to be heterosexual. Hmm? Were you 10 years old and decided that you were going to have a girlfriend rather than a boyfriend? 12 years old? 14 years old? I truly would like to hear your testimony about going the “heterosexual route”.
This story overall saddens me greatly. I live in Canada where thankfully LGBT hate crimes to this degree are not that common. I fully support Orosco and UNIBAM and I sincerely hope that one day the country of Belize will give all of their citizens the respect, freedom, and equal rights that they are entitled to.
