Stabbed to death while robbing hot dog vendor
Battlefield Park, aside from being among the oldest public spaces in the city, is a refuge for loiterers. The venue is also littered with fast food vendors around the clock and the combination makes for a volatile mix, one which has contributed significantly to a spike in crime and violence in the area over the past few weeks. On Saturday morning, the park was once again the scene of a violent incident where thirty-four year old Solomon Gabourel reportedly met his demise at the hands of a woman. Information surrounding the fatal stabbing is somewhat conflicting as the family contends that Gabourel was mortally wounded while coming to the aid of a hotdog vendor who was being robbed. Police, on the other hand, maintain that Gabourel was, in fact, the mugger and that he was stabbed multiple times while attempting to steal from the nineteen year old vendor. During the melee, Gabourel was pierced to the left side of the abdomen with the blade of a machete measuring thirteen inches in length. Gabourel succumbed to the injury less than an hour later. Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of National Security, Raphael Martinez, told News Five today that despite knowing the identity of the perpetrator, no arrest has been made as an investigation is ongoing.
Raphael Martinez, Acting Police Press Officer
“At approximately 5:30 on Saturday March twenty-fourth, 2012 police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they saw the apparent lifeless body of Solomon Earl Gabourel, a thirty-four year old Belizean of Creole descent, of a Jasmine Street address with apparent stab wounds to the left side of the abdomen. Initial investigations revealed that at approximately 4:30 on Saturday morning a nineteen year old young hotdog vendor, along with her sister and aunt, were just in front of the Battlefield Park when they were approached by Gabourel who, reportedly, attacked the nineteen year old vendor from behind holding a sharp object to her side and proceeded to rob her of her cell phone and, of course, money from her apron. The report continues by saying that upon seeing this, the aunt of this vendor then intervened and a struggle ensued between her and Gabourel which led to his fatal stabbing. So far police, we’ve detained nobody regarding this incident and our investigation continues.”

“You do, as you mentioned earlier, know that well it was a female who inflicted the stab wounds. The family of the young man contends that actually he was coming to the aid of the vendor when these wounds were inflicted. Have any such reports come to your desk?”
Raphael Martinez
“Well my take on that is that if the family, or if there’s somebody out there who has seen anything otherwise than what the police are reporting please step forward and assist the police in this investigation because, as your rightly said, there are so many sides to the story. So if you have seen something, you know about something out there that can assist the police officers in this case, please step forward.”

“Why hasn’t there been a detention or an arrest of this young lady?”
Raphael Martinez
“Well the investigation continues and having said that there may be an arrest later on but as I said I don’t want to preempt the investigation. So I’ll just say that the police are investigating at this time.”
On the night of February seventh, forty-nine year old Evan Jones was fatally shot during a hail of bullets sprayed on a group of men who were changing a flat tire near the park.
I dont condone crime. But i apllaud the lady in taking matters Into her own hands, to defend her property. Belizeans need to start taking matters into thier own hands since the police are inept to do so. This guy rob the wrong person. deh seh every fat fowl have e sunday one day his behind wah get cook. ONE BAD EGG LESS OUTA DIH CROWD. He will not rob anybody else.
JUSTICE IS SERVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What I wanna know is why they even contemplating arresting the woman…..they should be giving her a damn medal!!!! Maybe they need to consider hiring her as part of the justice system.
no need for an arrest, let’s give the woman a medal. we need more people to stand up against crime and the police to support law abiding citizens and the media as well.
The Police needs to bring in the lady and publicly give her a Medal of Honor & Bravery for defending her family.
kudos to you lady and hope the others scums learn that we’re tired of getting bullied by them and the people are getting hands on the scums now. thanks it’s one scum less in the city. bravo lady just keep an eye open now since they can retaliate someone somewhere.
This woman is a Belizean Hero for killing a thief of which there are so many in Belize.
Give her a medal.
Make her a senator.
Better yet make this person the new commissioner of the supreme court since this person has done more than the courts of Belize have been able to do.
This woman is a hero. She does deserve a medal. Why the thief family is trying to turn the story. He got what he deserve. He could have hurt the 19 year old young lady. Families need to accept wrong doing their family member do. If they tolerate them, this is what they will get. The death penalty.
for the first time i must say, i agree with all the comments, thats the law folks, u live by the sword u die by the sword, ….the auntie is a hero,….
Keep d good job lady, just keep and extra eye caz his family will try to retaliate since they dont want to agree he is the thief. and if he was helping, he wont have had the apron and took it to the get away vehicle.
