Prayer Service for Kim Simplis Barrow

Kim Simplis Barrow

At this time, a healing service is taking place at St John’s Cathedral for the wife of the Prime Minister, Kim Simplis Barrow, who is in Intensive Care Unit at a Miami Hospital. Simplis Barrow is receiving treatment for stage three breast cancer and last weekend she experienced complications when fluid was detected in her lungs and her heart was found not to be functioning to capacity.  A release from the government press office, contrary to wild reports, confirmed today that Simplis Barrow is showing signs of improvement and continues to gain strength. It further states; “Mrs. Barrow will be transferred from the Intensive Care Unit to a regular hospital room in the next couple days.” The celebrant at tonight’s service is Bishop Phillip Wright of the Anglican Diocese. Wright, a long time associate of the Simplis family, says he communicated with Misses Barrow earlier today via text messages.

“My relationship with Mrs. Barrow goes back a bit; really from the time I was working out in Cayo where her dad lived. Through my association with him, I obviously got to know the children and then began to do some work with Kim. Most recently, of course, I am one of the trustees of her lifeline foundation that as you know has done a lot for children and some of the local communities.”

“The prayer service that you are hosting this evening, was that something brought up by recent incidences regarding her treatment?”

“I believe so. I believe over this past weekend when it was reported that she had to be taken to the hospital, it certainly raised a concern for family and friends. It’s really out of that group that the request for a service came.”

Jose Sanchez

“Now in regards to your relationship with her, have you been able to get any communication with her or someone saying how she is actually doing?”

Rt. Rev. Phillip Wright

“Well luckily, she and I maintain a bit of contact through texting—believe it or not—and I will inquire occasionally and she would respond and say she is doing better. And as a matter of fact, she assured me today that she was doing better.”

“And in regards to the specifics of this evening’s prayer service, it doesn’t’ matter if you are from a different denomination; is everyone welcome?”

Rt. Rev. Phillip Wright

“Everyone is welcome. As a matter of fact, even though we are billing it as a sort of healing service for Kim, it’s really a healing service for anybody. I think what it will do—among other things, of course—it will give those who care about her, love her and wish her well to come together as one group and pray for her and give thanks to God for her healing. But in saying that, I would want to say anyone who has a loved one who is not well; who themselves are not well are welcome to come and be with us. And let it just be a service of thanksgiving for the Healing Grace of God.”

Prime Minister Dean Barrow remains by his wife’s side in Miami and he is scheduled to return to Belize over the weekend. Via the press release, the Barrows thank everyone for the continued prayers and support.
