Boy who was crushed under house is slowly improving

Ten year old Brithon Cordova remains in a critical condition at the K.H.M.H., but his condition is slowly improving. His mother, Norma Cordova, says that although he cannot talk he is alert. The boy has been hospitalized since Thursday after his zinc house collapsed on top of him when he and his seven year old nephew, Jovuan Griffiths were playing with a puppy under the house. Cordova was trapped under the house for almost an hour, before they were pulled out by neighbors. News Five spoke with Norma Cordova who says that her son is responding to treatment but it will take a while for him to fully recover.

“Well, he is still in critical condition at this moment. He had improved a bit; his lungs that was collapsed has been fixed, it’s okay now. He has feelings in his body but he doesn’t move his limbs yet quite well. He still has the brain damage, so I guess it was a lot he suffered. The doctor says we just have to wait and see what happens nuh. They are giving him another forty eight hours to see what will happen. They had removed all the medication for sleeping, so he is waking up. He opens his eyes and I think he hears when you speak to him but he cannot talk yet.”

“Does he maybe, nod his head; blink at you guys?”

“Yes, he blinks at us whenever I call him Brithon, he blinks. I say, ‘mommy is speaking to you,’ and he blinks. Whenever, I guess when he has pain he just move his toes. I tell him, ‘Brithon if you have pain move your toes,’ and he moves it. I think he hears you when you speak to him.”

“And what do the doctors say is this favorable; is it looking good for him?”

Norma Cordova

“Yes, the doctors say he might get over it but pretty slow. He say that when he gets over it, the damage to the brain, like if he gets over it he will become like a baby.; you will have to teach him to walk and talk and what’s not but he says let us wait and see what happens. Whenever the swelling from the brain goes down then we will see how much damage he had suffered.”

“That swelling itself will take quite a time…?”

“Yes, the swelling will take quite a while to go down. I just give thanks and firstly thanks to God because the impact that he got with the house, I thought he was dead and when I got to the hospital the doctors told me he was dead and they brought him back; I said that’s a miracle. So I thank firstly my God for giving him another chance because I know he will make it back.”

Griffiths received minor injuries on his legs.
