U.S. Embassy in Mexico issued warning on Hezbollah in Chetumal and Belize

Still on the ongoing investigation, in its Wednesday edition, the Diario de Quinatana Roo reports that the US Embassy in Mexico had issued a warning about the presence of radical Islamic groups such as Hezbollah in Chetumal and Belize. It cites information from Wikileaks that as far back as 2009, Hezbollah cells were using drug trafficking routes to reach the US. And according to Wikileaks, the US found evidence that the cells were operating in Belize and Chetumal. The report also says that Mexican President, Felipe Calderon, was concerned about the vulnerability of the Guatemala and Belize borders and arms trafficking in the region. There was also a report carried in El Pais on December second, 2010, which says that Calderon urged the United States to monitor Guatemala and Belize and to establish a strategic plan. The Wikileaks cables also allege that a Pakistani businessman and two others of Lebanese origin, residing in Belize, were responsible for operating a network of support for al Qaeda and Hezbollah, terrorist organizations. The ring was involved in money laundering, drug trafficking, stolen cars and human trafficking.

  1. I Belize it says:

Hezbollah, they seem to get things done in Belize.
Maybe they should put up a candidate in the next election.

  3. BMNJ says:

So those are the big fishes when it comes to drugs and arms trafficking. Since Hezbollah and PLO have connections in the Middle East, I wonder if at some point these Lebanese in Belize have any type of collusions with Said Musa who is, in a subtle way, supported the Palestinian movement.

There seems to be a lot of underground activity going on in Belize and while we do not know what is going on in the higher levels to combat this, there should be a push at the government offices to put this front and center! Economics is a part of what is greasing this type of activity as the ordinary citizen needs to make money and the Beklizean economy is unable to sustain good paying jobs. Knowing that there is a need to identify people who have integrity and would not fall into the trap of easily being bribed.
One last thing is that there should be a serious vetting of some of the posts masde in tjhis newspaper as they make no sense at all. It is good to ride with a political party but when you post nonsensicals about the other party there is a diminishing of the effectiveness of this opportunity to air our views.

  5. cayo bway says:

sadly our our country is going to the dogs…….. just for a little bribe you can get anything done in belize, land, papers, everything……… and the sad part is that not only them public officers look bad. we all look bad and our country look worse….. criminal haven……the way how things going right now in my precious jewel is like a “chicken running around without head”

  6. Vuk says:

With things like this, one can see why the sentiment of those who often cry about Belize becoming “another Haiti” is so persistent.

  7. Bear says:

It’s a dangerous shame that terrorists come to the region and try to blend in with peaceful people while they plan violence and wait for an opportunity to strike, or raise money to send “back home” to arm their comrades.

It’s not new, but I’m sure it is getting worse, especially as Iran, which is VERY aggressive in these things, is teaming up more and more with Venezuela. I read that some of the people involved in putting a truck-bomb in the World Trade Center in New York in 1993 entered the US with Nicaraguan passports.

I hope someone in our security apparatus cares enough to work with other credible countries to fight these people every possible way. Nothing good can come from letting terrorists make a nest among us.

  8. Eye in the Sky says:

Hey we can no longer import materials to make Meth so now they have found a new cash source in importing Hezbollah Terrorists. The Corozal Free Zone has many Hezbollah. Just go look at the big shops.

  9. Seletar says:

Just thinking, is it a coincidence that JP Arana’s home was burned down just when the Hezbollah member was arrested after she signed his paperwork, or is that a warning from some Hezbollah brothers still in Belize and watching, waiting to strike here if necessary?

We need to get help from England, or the US, to find out what happened to the “missing” birth certificate and passport applications, too. Officials who destroy records and evidence must be put in chains.
