Canada donates forensic ballistic system to Belize
A forensic ballistic system donated by the Canadian government will be inaugurated this Friday. Coinciding with that event will be a visit by Canada’s minister of state of Foreign Affairs, Diane Ablonczy. Between today and Sunday, Ablonczy will be in Guatemala and Belize to strengthen relationships with both countries and to reinforce the Canadian commitment to the region. While in the Jewel, Ablonczy will meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wilfred Elrington, and Minister of National Security, John Saldivar. She will also tour the National Forensic Science Laboratory, which is a part of her country’s efforts to support security initiatives in Belize and Central America. Earlier this year, at the Summit of the Americas in April, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced a new Canadian Initiative for Security in Central America, which includes the disbursement of twenty-five million dollars over five years. A significant portion of those funds will go to supports projects in Guatemala and Belize. According to the release from the Canadian Embassy in Guatemala, Canada’s two-way trade with Belize totaled thirteen point six million dollars in 2011, an increase of six point one percent since 2010.
Without generous friends like Canada trying to help us secure our country, imagine how much worse it would become here? God knows GOB never invests in things police need to protect us, not even vehicles, radios, cameras, recorders, or bulletproof vests. Better to pay the gangsters.
Thanks, Canada.
Damm no wonder our country cannot move forward look who she is going to meet with. Two brain dead people in Elrington and saldivar we cannot move forward because this pm has put in place a gov. Filled with incompetent people like his family and friends instead of with qualified people every thing that has been donated already has been stolen or is rusting because we don’t have qualified people to use these donations but at least the people in cayo are waking up I am proud of them not like the people living in the city they are all walking around in a fog they better wake up before they are the next one to be raped or murdered this pm and gov. Need to o. Guan judas barrow get out you are a total and complete failure at your job do your fellow citizens a favor and resign resign.
Thank you Canada
Since this made news, how comes Minister Elrington stated at the San Ignacio Public Meeting that the Government needs half a million dallars to improve forensics. Well, what is he waiting for, looks to me Canada is helping us with more than that. Why don’t you politicians do the job you were voted in to do. Find means to get that half a million and stop preaching. Cayo residents don’t need to hear what you cannot do. They want to hear what the government is going to do, what is the government plan, etc? Mr. Elrington, forget to do his research yesterday before going in to the meeting, he said that the community of San Ignacio need to work to help solve crime… Well, I want to enlighten Belize and Mr. Elrington, that San Ignacio Police has the highest rate of convictions and the most active neighborhood watch, COPS and Special Constable community volunteers. Mr. Elrington you need to come better than that mein. This time, you look bad.
@young gial,
thank you for highlighting this info since Mr. Elrington just tried to calm down the outrage but the real truth cayo people are now going to show today that we are a united community and we stand today to show the nation that enough is enough. The rest of the nation should join today to show gov. that we want justice, better police service (forensic investigation) and more patrols on certain crime raid areas.
Why aren’t the entire country of Belize in solidarity with San Ignacio all of this affect all of us. We Should shut down the ENTIRE country to let this government know we have had enough of their arrogance and theft. While they are riding around in expensive vehicle and living like kings the citizens of the country is living in fear and living in poverty. Belizeans stop the talk STAND UP.
You damm right Mormon sense I’ve been preaching this for years finally it looks like my suggestions are moving o flues ion come on belizeans. Stand up we need to kick this this pm and gov. Out on the street let them get a taste of what the rest of us belizeans are forced to confront day in and day out we need to get rid of this incompetent and corrupt pm and gov guan barrow guan .
I think civic leaders and activists from all the cities and villages should meet with the Cayo leaders and organize a national general strike. My goal would be the removal of GOB and immediate new elections.
Today is a perfect time for some honest folks to step up and start a reform party, neither UDP nor PUP. Both of our major parties have repeatedly proved they are unable to govern honestly and well, so there is no point in voting for either of them another time.
I love that, Bear
