K.H.M.H. lauded by heart surgery patient
The following story is a lot sweeter than the survival of the Belize Sugar Industry operations and the continued employment of its workers. A Belize City man who worked all his life had an ailment which landed him in the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. During his recent trip to the K.H.M.H., sixty year old Manuel Alfredo Acosta, found out his heart was failing. But the K.H.M.H.’s Chief of Staff and resident Thoracic surgeon, Doctor Adrian Coye restored his health, for which he is grateful. Acosta stopped by News Five to give a positive report about the K.H.M.H.
Manuel Alfredo Acosta, Received Heart Surgery
“I never knew I had a problem with the heart. I went to take an operation for the bladder, then I found out I had problem with the heart. And you know something like this very expensive. We prayed to the good lord and he opened door for us and we met Doctor Coye. And when I met Doctor Coye, in the spiritual world, you got the gift of the spirit and the fruit of the spirit—and he had both. And I felt so contended and relaxed and it boiled down to he put me through this operation.”
Jose Sanchez
“When did you take the operation?”
Manuel Alfredo Acosta
“Last Tuesday.”
Jose Sanchez
“So it’s one day short of a week since you’ve had heart surgery and here you are.”
Manuel Alfredo Acosta
“I’m here; I’m in.”
Jose Sanchez
“And who would you like to give your thanks to? I know it’s not every day that people have nice things to say about the hospital.”
Manuel Alfredo Acosta
“First the glory belongs to the lord. Second, Doctor Coye and the doctors in the hospital here are so nice and sweet—they let you feel at home—the nurses; everything was just perfect. The specialist that came down and talk to you so calm and nice that you get to trust in them. And I said, I told Doctor Coye that I was going to come here and let you all take the picture of this so people can see.”
Jose Sanchez
“So in this case the hospital truly saved your life?”
Manuel Alfredo Acosta
“Amen. It gives me extra time with my wife and kids. But I think a man like Doctor Coye, we Belizeans should really appreciate because he is up there with some of the best.”
This is a very heartening story. Mr. Acosta seems like a devout and God-loving man, and I wish him all the best in his recovery. Dr. Coye seems like an exceptional healer, too. So many of his colleagues seem to be uncaring for the patient, or caring only for the dollar; it seems Mr. Acosta was lucky to connect with Dr. Coye and his team. They all deserve thanks, blessings, and recognition.
Very refreshing story, we need more positive news like this…
great story and I am happy for this gentleman, however Dr Longsworth CEO of the Hospital explained in a press interview last week that due to this new service of heart surgery their operational costs in the hospital have gone so high that every man woman and child accessing the Emergency Room will need to pay 15 dollars. so we are limiting the access to basic health care for the poor and indigent at the primary care level to allow super specialized subsidized care.. the 2 year old with astma at midnight won’t get immediate care and attention if his mother cannot find 15 dollars, what are the possible consequences of that.
this is steal dean barrows fault and this useful government. you’ll see
Kudos to DR. Coyi….
Glad to hear something positive from our healthcare system. Kudos to Doc. Coye and may the Lord continue granting him the virtue of being such a great doctor 🙂
