Assistance needed; can you help?
Life has been tough for thirteen year old Gerald Augustine of Seine Bight Village and he now needs your help to travel abroad for medical treatment. Gerald was left paralyzed after an accident over ten years ago. Due to complications caused by his condition, his mother now fears that he may not survive, but the family can’t afford to take him out of the country for the necessary treatment. Gerald’s sister, Elena Augustine, who is in Belize City, spoke to News Five about his condition and made an appeal to the public for assistance.
Elena Augustine, Brother Needs Assistance
“In his early childhood, he sustained brain damage due to his fall. He fell through a window when he was younger, when he was like two to three. Now he is like—sometimes he has to go to the doctor, sometimes he doesn’t. But due to the brain damage my mom is seeking financial assistance so that she can take him out of the country.”
“Do you know how much money you all will have to raise?”
Elena Augustine
“We have no idea at this time because according to my mom, she doesn’t know yet because she’s not sure where she will take him from here on.”
Delahnie Bain
“What are some of the problems that he’s had since this brain damage occurred?”
Elena Augustine
“Sometimes his body gets swollen, sometimes he ketch fits. Ih ketch fits and with my mom now, she’s afraid of him passing away so she just has to seek the assistance from the public to take him out of the country.”
Delahnie Bain
“And it also left him paralyzed?”
Elena Augustine
“Yes ma’am, he can’t walk, he can’t talk; nothing at all.”
Delahnie Bain
“So how can people get in contact with you all if they want to make a donation?”
Elena Augustine
“They can call me at 663-4335 or they can contact my mom at 627-1807 or they can deposit the money at Atlantic Bank. My Atlantic Bank account number is 211-384-036.”
Elena says they are first working on getting Gerald’s passport and visa. During that time, details of where he will be taken and the cost will be confirmed.
Maybe SSB has money to help this disabled boy — oh, I forgot, SSB spent its money on Mayor Bradley’s bond.
Once the family gets the information on what he actually needs and where he actually needs to go, maybe SSB or the public or one of the generous American medical charities can help.
why doesnt belize adopt this child and others Children ,Child of the State. where is our tax money ???? it should go to this directions… Feed, clothes and Shelter…. then God can have mercy on this country Christmas is here make a family blesses Belize .
My prayers are with this kid and his family.
That $10,000.00 USD that dean barrow gave to the Guatemalan family could have been spent for this young man’s treatment that he desperately needs. This government never cease to amaze me with their “wise” decisions…prayers for this young man & his family.
it is sad what happened to that little boy but that family is just a bunch of leaches. Dont fall into their trap, some years ago this family got a lot of money to attend to that child’s medical needs but they just use the money to buy things for their everyday life, that child has been the same for quit a while now, no better no worst so do u think its a coincident that they want help around christmas? they need to go christmas shopping. any 1 wants to help that child, dont give that family any money, see that d child get the care he needs because giving them money wont guarrantee that child gets the help he need.
