Mexico sends military to help build road to international bridge

The Mexican Senate has authorized eleven members of the Mexican Army to cross the border of Belize and assist in the construction of a section of the road that links the international bridge between Belize and Mexico. Ninety two senators voted in approval of the request during a senate meeting on Thursday.  The Mexican team will include a colonel, a captain, a lieutenant and eight Mexican Army Engineers. The Mexican military will not carry weapons for the duration of the four month period.  The bridge is expected to help the flow of trade and tourism between the two countries. It was commissioned in the last days of President Felipe Calderon, but could not be inaugurated because the road had not been constructed.

    Belizeans are in-love with Mexico, and Mexico gives back.

  2. Truthbetold says:

    We should be disgusted/ashamed in ourselves how low we have let ourselves slip in becoming a begging nation. What happened to national pride?
    Eleven Mexicans for four months, to fix our roads. Come on, the PM and his cronies pay their gang member supporters, which far outnumber this, to work on streets in Belize City. Surely we can show the Mexicans we can at least do our part which we undertook to do.

  3. BMNJ says:

    What happen to our own BDF’s engineering team? We could also use our prisoners from the Kolby Foundation as well and as a way to pay back to the Belizean society.

  4. greenhauler says:

    Mexico wants the Belizeans to shop in Chetumal. Without that efficient link, the commerce won’t flow as well as if it was in place. It’s always about the almighty dollar.

  5. Storm says:

    @Truthbetold and @BMNJ, you’re both so right!

    How embarrassing that GOB, IN FIVE YEARS, could not get 11 Belizeans off their backsides to build OUR OWN ROAD, IN OUR OWN COUNTRY — and we have to let the Mexicans show us how to work! Woe to the Jewel!

    That’s one more reason we need a “People Power” revolution.

  6. Eye in the Sky says:

    Top Secret Information:

    That part of the Belize Free Zone belongs to Mexico anyway.

    It was sold to the Mexicans many, many, years ago and Belize only lease it from the Mexicans.

    Same deal like Hong Kong and the Chinese had.
