USAID representative leads discussion on behavior at HIV Forum
The first National HIV Prevention summit is the handiwork of the National AIDS Commission of Belize. The stakeholders at the conference are being educated by experts to help them understand the psychological processes that lead people to risky behavior. The other topics include examining youth culture and how HIV correlates to drug use. A study presented at the forum showed that drug addicts had an infection rate that was higher than the national average, and women in that category were more affected. During today’s session those in attendance participated in a presentation by an HIV Prevention Specialist from USAID.
Gaovanni Melendez, HIV/Aids Prevention Specialist
“I was invited to come and share with the audience some of the new advances or new methodologies that have been implemented in the region to target HIV/AIDS prevention with high risk groups: men having sex with men, female sex workers, female sex workers and clients and female sex workers also. I presented what is not working in the region. Some of the common mistakes that some of the prevention activities that have been done in the past. And there is a few lessons to be taken into consideration. If we want to improve the prevention, we need to move away from information activates. Prevention is not the core of prevention interventions. Another one is that we need to understand that on the basis of the prevention activities for HIV/AIDS, we need to include topics that are not very popular. These include: gender, human rights, poverty, sexuality, sexual orientation. We can’t address the prevention HIV/AIDS things if we don’t discuss as a society. We need to create a framework at the national level to understand how this country is going to understand and to promote prevention. All the activities could be full of good intentions, but without a national framework, we could have a lot of mixed messages and contradictory messages also that can be provided to the population and that is a risk.”
What this pm and gov. Is not telling you , half of all the people living in Belize now has aids people we are even worse than Africa I repeat half of all the population in Belize now has aids wow wow wow.
If the USA wants to help us combat the DISEASES of AIDS and HIV, I would appreciate.
But this program from the US Agency for International Development is designed to bring SOCIAL CHANGE to Belize, to make us into what America wants for us — and that fact came right out of their speaker’s mouth, Mr. Melendez: he says “gender, human rights, poverty, sexuality, sexual orientation” must all be changed in Belize in order to help us fight the deadly MEDICAL DISEASES.
We don’t need the US teaching our children it is moral to have same-sex marriage, like they have there. We don’t need the US or anyone telling us we must approve and accept deviant behavior. The Americans have lost their way as a nation, they have turned away from God and church, and this is the result — 1,500,000 Americans babies killed every year in abortion mills, men marrying men, women marrying women, people going stark naked in public in San Francisco. That may be the “American Dream” in this new millennium, but it does not fit here, not yet!
So, Mr. Obama, don’t send your emissaries here to change Belize into America’s declining moral image. We’ll thank you for medicine to cure our sick, but right now church-going, God-fearing Belizeans are your MORAL SUPERIORS, and we want to stay that way, and keep our nation that way for our children and grandchildren.
PLEASE JOIN ME IN CHALLENGING THIS PERVERTED PROGRAM THAT IS TRYING TO UNDERMINE AND DESTROY MORALITY IN THE JEWEL.
