Stealing from cookie jar; 7 years for cookie burglary

Mark Faber

Thirty-one year old Mark Faber, an unemployed resident of Biscayne Village, was today sentenced to seven and a half years in prison after being found guilty of Burglary for stealing from the cookie jar.  On the night of January second, Faber was caught red-handed by a pair of officers as he was stealing from inside a tuck shop near the Boom Cutoff.  Police constables Elizar Cob and Roman Cantun both observed Faber as he was pushing his arms into the front wooden window of the shop which belongs to Corozal businesswoman Guadalupe Torres.  P.C. Cantun later testified that he alighted the police mobile and approached Faber, who was approximately twenty feet away from the property.  He was informed that a search of his person would be conducted.  In his possession was thirteen dollars worth of cookies hidden in his front pants pocket.  Faber, who appeared before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith, told the court that he had been given a lift from Belize City to Boom Cutoff and whilst standing there the officers approached him.  Faber maintained his innocence despite being told that the Chief Magistrate did not believe his account of what transpired.  He has been sentenced to seven years, six months at the Belize Central Prison.

Is this for real? This man looks like he was just hungry. We have murderers walking away when everyone knows they did it and they sentenced this man to 7 years for cookies. Why were’nt these police constables looking for real crime.

    What a case of munchies!

He would have been treated with more leniency if he had raped a 6 year old, like John Baptist who was only fined for that crime. If he’d committed a murder or cut rosewood, he would have walked free.

What an unjust nation we have made ourselves since independence!

  5. Hmmmm says:

7 years for stealing cookies with little evidence. Murderes are getting 000000 days with the weapon in hand. LOL! Go Haiti… I mean Belize… I really meant little Belize Haiti.

  6. the observer says:

Let see this man gets 7 years for stealing few inanimate cookies, and in Benque a businessman gets $250 fine for each offence and no jail time for what he plead guilty to, for having his hand in the cookie jar with a minor girl and stealing innocence on three occasions? Does this make any sense to you?

There is something really wrong about this story. What am I or from the comments above, we, missing. The punishment does not fit the crime at all.
Who are these people doing the sentencing?
    Really…..7 years for stealing cookies?

  8. John Doe says:

Our justice system is just a joke.

This man gets 7 years for $13 of cookies, this Baptist guy got fined $11,000 for playing with a little girl’s cookie.

  9. OJ says:

Well, at least he will have free food for that amount of years. There is no job but they will feed him. What do you call that? Maybe his intention was to have that result. A success story.

    Belizeanci says:

@John Doe I agree with you. There is something seriously wrong with the justice system, when murderers and rapists are getting off scott free or with fines; and a man found stealing some cookies is given 7 years. Serious crime pays in Belize, the people who commit petty crimes pay for roast and boil. That’s just the way it is in Belize today.

Only in Belize. Just plain stupidity!
