Guatemala’s airport has map annexed to Belize
In the past, Guatemala has showcased maps at international forums that annex Belize to that country. There was a concern that Guatemala would carry out similar measures at the forty-third General Assembly of the O.A.S. which was held from June fourth through sixth in Antigua, Guatemala. Assistant Secretary General Albert Ramdin, while on a visit to Belize said that whatever documents or videos that would be presented to the general assembly would be submitted seventy two hours in advance for vetting. The General Assembly went off without a hitch, but while Guatemala played nice for the international delegations in Antigua, the visitors upon entry and exit to the country were treated to a map of Guatemala that had no border separating it from Belize. A News Five team returned from Guatemala today and they took pictures of the Immigration Booth at the Mundo Maya Airport in Flores. Earlier in the week, News Five spoke to Guatemala’s Foreign Minister Fernando Carrera about the use of offensive images.

“Given the fact that we do have the opportunity to ask you…Guatemala has made a couple of actions in terms of the use of the map including Belize—the ordering of the passports with the dotted line; things that have caused a severe reaction in Belize. How do you justify those kinds of actions given the fact that there are still the arrangements being made through the O.A.S.?”

“Yes, but we have criticized those Guatemalans who have done that because that’s not authorized at all. Our official position is that between the Guatemalan territory and Belize there is no border recognized, but we have what we call the “zona de adjacencia”—I’m sorry about hat in English, the Adjacency Zone. So within that, we put something that is a dotted line. A dotted line indicates it is not a border, but it is something that we had both agreed is more or less what we call the adjacency zone that is it. And so the map expresses that in it.”

The foreign minister of Guatemala stated on his interview that a dotted line indicates it is not a border,but it is something that we had both agreed is more or less what we call the adjacency zone that is it. My question is which stupid moron from Belize agreed to this.
Belize needs to become a “free associated state” with the United Kingdom. We cannot tolerate any more direspectful acts from Guatemala. Belize must be like Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Montserrat!
We need to be a British Overseas Territory now!
My fellow Belizeans, it is time for us to petition to become a “free associated state” with the United Kingdom.
In order for Guatemala to refrain from violating our territorial integrity, Belize must enter into an strategic partnership with the United Kingdom. Like Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, and Montserrat, the Belize government could exercise sovereignty over domestic matters, while the British will be responsible for Belize’s defense and foreign affairs.
There is no other way out of this. Guatemala is insincere in its negotiations, and this issue will not be resolved any time soon. If we become a “free associated state,” or, for lack of a better term, a British Overseas Territory, we will have the protection of the British government against any possible acts of hostility from Guatemala.

Mrs. Cuellar I wanted or expected some one from channel 5 to show him the map and see his reaction and to explain why it is made like this. damn!! this man disgust me to hear he him say “we agreed” who fool agreed to put the map of the Jewel with the chapines in a dotted line to show our side of the fence?
