Belize participates in regional meeting in Mexico

Jose Antonio Meade-Kuribreña

North of the border, the meeting of Foreign Ministers from Central America, Colombia, Domincan Republic and Mexico was held today in city of San Cristobal de las Casas in the Mexican state of Chiapas. The meeting is being held under the theme, “Mexico and Central America, a renewed relationship.” Mexican Foreign Minister, Jose Antonio Meade Kuribreña, in a statement reiterated the sentiments of Mexican President, Enrique Pena-Nieto, who during the first meeting with SICA member states in February said that the meeting of the foreign ministers is to “explore new formulas aimed at deepening and strengthening the ties between Mexico and Central America.” The frank political dialogue, according to Meade, is being based on the solid democratic culture sustained on common value. The meeting analyzed ways to promote and strengthen the economic ties promoting trade exchange between countries. Meade says that the trade volume is below its true potential and the modernization and simplification of the movement of goods through borders is essential in increasing the exchange and enhance competitiveness. Regional security was also discussed.
