Group that tracks anti-gay groups, fears for activities in Belize

Heidi Beirich

The Southern Poverty Law Center is a civil rights organization. Founded in 1971, is dedicated to fighting hate groups and extremism and teaching tolerance and trying to identify and track the activities of several anti-LGBT groups.  According to Beirich, the LGBT community suffers the most violence in the U.S. and reports from the U.N. and Heartland Alliance are showing that in Belize, similar activities are taking place.  And as to those who may say that SPLC may be pushing its own agenda, Beirich says the group prevents violence and promotes tolerance.

“Our view is that private sexual acts should never be criminalized. These laws only exists to punish and further demonize and ostracize the LGBT community wherever they are—whether it is Belize, Trinidad and Tobago or parts of Africa. People have to remember that in the United States, we had these same laws, the same British inheritance, was legal in many states where they banned what they called here sodomy until 2003. So it is not unusual for Belize to have this on the books. What is unusual is that anybody would defend the practice. It is unacceptable, it is against human rights and basically all enlightened people believe this at this point in time. But clearly, you can’t stand up for human rights when you are throwing people in jail for consensual sex. There is no question we have an agenda. Our agenda is for people not to be thrown in jail for consensual sex. We stand on the side of human rights and ending violence against gay people. We stand on the side of not lying about that population. That is our agenda. The ADF has an agenda too which I think is just straight up reprehensible. So I plead guilty to having that agenda…yes. I want people to be able to live in peace and safety and not be subjected to criminalization or violence for who they are.”

The problem with GAY rights is not what they do in the privacy of there bedroom. The problem is how they manipulate people to accept that that lifestyle is acceptable….. and you and I well know we can’t get no grandkids from two males and two female relationship….. do you realize that? The only union that is acceptable is the one God ordained, even our physical bodies testify to that union. Our DNA screams male and female chromosomes….. why are we compromising the truth? Why are we believing lies? I will say confusion like company. Believe God and let everything else be a lie…..

  2. Rod says:

This is why the us is hated in every corner of the world because they want to stick their nose in every bodies business keep your agenda in the us we don’t care what you have to say we are a god feeling people.

  3. Islander says:

Wow she came close to calling Belizeans Neanderthals by saying ” the enlightened people”.

Not sure that helps her case.

  4. Belizean says:

PROVE TO ME, WHERE IS THE VIOLENCE? WHEN HAS ANYONE BEEN KILLED!! YOU ARE LYING OUTRIGHT! THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ANTI GAY VIOLENCE IN BELIZE..YOU ARE FALSE FLAGGING THIS COUNTRY

  5. Initiate says:

Rights cannot be demanded; they can truly only be given.

  6. Stand Up says:

these people don’t even know what they’re talking about. the law they want to change has never once been used to charge or prosecute anyone for a consensual act! not once! over 80% of the time when s.53 was used to charge or prosecute someone it was sexual abuse on children & minors! and 100% of the times it was used was for sexual abuse cases! the highest occurrences when s.53 was used was male on male abuse to children! that’s why s.53 is a good law. it also tells you why a homosexual organization wants to change it! also the gays live their life in fear that someone they have seduced into homosexual sex (and they do a lot of seducing, they are manipulators at the core) will aftewards regret it, and report them to the authorities. gays have told me this! if they live their life in fear of s.53, that is why

  7. Firebrand says:

Southern Poverty… We have a lot of poor people in Belize that can use your advocacy. But instead you use terms like “uncivilized” to describe Belizeans who believe in marriage between a man and woman. Europeans and their descendants love using that term to refer to others. Ever wonder that Belizeans have a right to their own opinions, just like you Europeans? Desmond Tutu has South African Blacks to worry about because they are still not free, still don’t have land! southern poverty can help eliminate poverty in Belize! The majority of Californians voted against gay marriages and lost their fight in court. What does that say about voting in u.s? Now they want to use that as an example. Belizeans are speaking and have spoken against that lifestyle before any ADF or other American group in Belize

  8. Brightman says:

@ Stand Up…you lie and misrepresent the facts as your hate groups tend to do repeatedly! There are other laws in the book exclusive of s.53 that PROTECT our children against abuse… s.53 sole purpose is to punish consensual sex between adults… if the law has never been used, then it is obviously obsolete and neanderthalish indeed to keep it in the books! Any law that criminalizes that punishes consensual acts between adults completely flies against Christian love that Jesus himself preached–He himself prevented the stoning to death of the prostitute, yet you want to uphold punishment by incarceration??? Ironic!!

  9. Al says:

Heidi, gays can do whatever sexual devious act they desire as long as they do it in private. Don’t try to get others to accept the ugly act as a legally respected thing. Homosexuality is wrong, I respect the right of the gays to choose their sexual partner and call themselves wife and husband all day long. Please do not try to push it down the throat of those who see the moral decay that is happening.

I say again, sex between same gender is wrong. It is wrong in the sight of God and the sight of man. Only those who has no respect for God or do not believe there is a God is for this ugly union.

  10. anewvoice says:

I got the perfect solution. Being that you think the US is bad. How about the country (Belize) ban anything that is American or of the United States of America from the country. Do not allow ANY Americans into the country. Not only that do not accept any goods or charity from America. Also, ship every Belizean or any who claim Belizean heritage back home. And if you are American, go back to your birth country. Let’s champion that cause.

  11. bgroovy says:

We will not bow outsiders. ..

  12. Concern says:

Our view is that private sexual acts should never be criminalized.

You should check your fact first before you shoot off your mouth. Not one homosexual person in Belize have been criminalized for what they do in the privacy of their home. Yes, the law have been used, but it is to persecute grown hard back men who had sodomized little boys as young as four years old, but I guess this is ok in your book.

These laws only exists to punish and further demonize and ostracize the LGBT community wherever they are—whether it is Belize,

While you are talking, like if you know what your are talking about, give us some stats as to number of gays actually demonized in our country. We love them because they are human beings just like us, but we are smart enough to see how in your country they are suing people, left right and center just for an opinion. Yet they are able to voice their opinion and even try to degrade us, so…hell no we don’t want that here. In Belize the gays and lesbians have equal right. Why would we want to give them more right than we currently have, so that they can hold it as a big stick to whap us over our heads.

People have to remember that in the United States,

The United States is not a paradise of heaven as you are trying to make it out to be. Just ask the Blacks and the Hispanic population. They have nearly all visited the jail house because of your wondrous treatment.

What is unusual is that anybody would defend the practice.

Are you dumb? We will defend that law in our country any day, as in this country, gays hold the highest jobs, get equal opportunity to health and education and enjoy equal rights like everyone else. You know why, because we are all human beings. Show us where the people who are not gays or lesbians, have enjoyed a better life stiyle because they have more rights. Show us how this foolishness you are talking about is going to make our country grow, and people will be able to put food on their table, clothes on their back and a roof over their head.

It is unacceptable, it is against human rights

Does basically enlightened people believe that its ok for you to teach our small babies, boys and girls, that they should not listen to their parents, that they are not who they think they are, as they need to be taught that little boys should be trained to act like little girls, and little girls should be trained to act like little boys. If we refuse to have our kids brain washed this way, then we should be sued for not complying! The schools should be sued if they refuse. The teachers must be replaced if they are unwilling to teach this stuff . What you are saying is that we have no right over our kids and we either follow suite or be bullied and threatened in a zillion ways to accept what you want to ram down our throats. Belizeans are educated! Fool the talk but da no fools the listen!

You can’t stand up for human rights when you are throwing people in jail for consensual sex.

There you go again! Talking like if you are speaking the gospel truth! How many men or women have been thrown in jail for LGBT AGENDA? No, let me answer you! The answer is ZERO! NONE! ZILCH!

There is no question we have an agenda.

YES, you do! Your mission is to bully us into submission to accept the ideas you want to perpetuate. Lets, swing the coin, what would you do to us if we BELIZEANS were trying to bully the American people to accept any ideas we have. Yep, you got it right! We would be crushed like the worms you think we are.

We stand on the side of human rights

Back off! Keep your views and opinions to your self. We are getting along just fine without your ideology which you are trying to impose on us.

    Southern Poverty Law Center

Neat disguise! Anyone seeing these words would think you guys are the leaders helping the poor to come out of poverty! How wrong they would be to show up at your door seeking help because they have nothing to eat!

We want people to be able to live in peace and safety as well, but we are not giving the impression that the world is falling down and someone need to prop it up for some very so called special vulnerable group! Everyone is special and vulnerable!

  13. Citizen says:

How dare you Heidi insult us, by saying we are not basically enlightened, just because we don’t accept what you are trying to force on us at this point in time. Is this a new way to win our love?

  14. Concern says:

(Beirich said: ‘Our view is that private sexual acts should never be criminalized’.)

Zero person criminalized in Belize. Those actually punished was for raping kids as young as four years. I guess that is ok in your book, but we can’t tolerate that here.

(Beirich: These laws only exists to punish and further demonize and ostracize the LGBT community wherever they are—whether it is Belize,)

Get your facts straight, cause your knowledge of Belize is totally skewed in the wrong direction. Your aim is to give Belize a bad name and should not be tolerated. Can’t believe we actually have media who think you deserve air time when you are deliberately trying to damage the reputation
    of our people and country!

  15. Concern says:

Heidi: People have to remember that in the United States,

In our country we have a melting pot of many races. Everyone have equal rights. Ask the Blacks, and the Hispanic people how your wonderful treatment of them, have them going in and out of jail. We don’t have that here, and don’t need it.

  16. Love says:

Heidi: What is unusual is that anybody would defend the practice.

This is not unusual in our country because we all enjoy equal treatment. We are all human beings and deserve to be treated with love and respect. We love the gays and the lesbians, but we are not going to make a extra special group out of them, so that they can beat us over our heads, the way its happening in USA, England, and Canada. That is why internet exist to show us what is happening when you give a group extra privileges over all others.

  17. Citizen says:

Heidi: ‘ you can’t stand up for human rights when you are throwing people in jail

Throwing suggest many! For your information the number is ZERO! If you know differently, then let us have the facts! By the way did your informant tell you that only two weeks ago a drunken man heading home was raped, and will not get justice. Was he raped by a straight man or a gay? We both know the answer to that, but your mouth is shut. What happened to his rights, as the civil rights organization who should be seeking justice for all, won’t you be trying to help him? Your silence is deafening!

  18. Love says:

Heidi: ‘We stand on the side of not lying about that population.’

From you opened your mouth you have been lying, deliberately. You seek to give Belize and Belizeans a bad name. You are insulting us without any remorse, but we do understand how low you are willing to stoop to give the impression that you mean good. That’s a very funny way of showing it.

  19. Love says:

Calling on Heidi Beirich, Director, Intelligence from The Southern Poverty Law Center, which is a civil rights organization, to identify and track the man or men who two weeks ago raped a man who was heading home on foot. Suspect is not the LGBT groups, not the straight men, but more than likely a homosexual or homosexuals. Please help bring these perpetrators to justice!

  20. Guerra says:

Its ok for a homosexual to tell you that marriage should be between a man and a man, or between a woman and a woman. That is their opinion! If you say that marriage should be between a man and a woman, because that is how we procreate. For giving that opinion, you should be sued, and lock down with the government paying for everything. Where is the equality in that??? I am confused, can Heidi explain why? I thought human rights gives equality to everyone!

  21. bzn2dabone says:

I don’t know that there has been any violence against lgbt members here in Belize. So to me these people are just lying to try to bring their twisted agenda to the forefront….
