It’s been four days since Danny Conorquie was murdered at the Caracol Mayan Site; on Sunday, he was laid to rest after an emotional funeral service. We have that story coming up. But tonight, there appears to be confusion, at least in government, over who killed the former tourism police special constable from Georgeville, Cayo. […]
All that talk about rising up and taking a stance…about protecting our land, possessions and lives against Guatemalans…was good for a round of applause at the funeral of Danny Conorquie. But it was short-lived. Early this morning, the political hammer came crashing down on Thompson’s head and by this afternoon, he issued a release, stating, […]

But late this afternoon, there was another statement. In the face of mounting public outrage at Conorquie’s murder, the Prime Minister issued a release today. While stopping short of confirming who murdered the special constable, the PM says there are reasons to believe that “Guatemalan nationals may be responsible for the shooting and this has […]

The fact is that unless one of the murderers dropped a notarized confession complete with finger-print, blood-sample, picture and proof of Guatemalan birth…it is unlikely that there will be any legal proof that Danny Conorquie’s killers were Guatemalan. Minister of Foreign Affairs Wilfred Elrington certainly won’t move until he has that confession statement in hand. […]

Following the murder of Conorquie, Caracol has been closed indefinitely by the National Institute of Culture and History. The brazen midday execution of Special Constable Conorquie at the Caracol Archaeological Site on Thursday, by persons believed to be Guatemalan nationals, has caused public outrage. And as you heard earlier in the newscast, there are significant differences in the interview from the San Ignacio police and the sanitized information released on Thursday. Still, the […]
Minister Elrington’s comments, considering his decidedly nonchalant demeanour whenever Guatemala is involved, are not surprising, but they are disturbing. And while he refuses to say the killers are Guatemalan for fear of offending that country, he has offended the family of Conorquie. There is little solace for them at this point, and the words of […]

Current Bar Association President Eamon Courtenay was far less subtle in his reference to the proposed amendments, in particular the change in composition of the General Legal Council.
